Bathroom Demo
Last Saturday, we decided to fix the sink. It had been clogged for a few days & it was time to get it done. As Gavin inched his way into the vanity, he realized we had a much bigger job on our hands than we thought. One bump of his shoulder & the corroded, copper line snapped off. This was just the beginning. . .
After two trips to Lowe’s & one to Home Depot, we finally got what we needed. By now, we decided to remove the vanity to have more room to work. After that went, I have to say I got a little excited because I could sense my dream of remodeling this bathroom someday might be sooner than I thought.
All of the previous evenings of taking a bath in the claw foot tub in there, I’d look around & envision what I wanted the space to become. I thought it’d be way down the road though by the time we got to this project. Not anymore.
As he worked, I diligently began taking out all of the items in the bathroom. When I got to the hanging shelf with my essential oils, he stopped me. “You can leave that there for now,” he said. “Well . . . I’ll just get it out of the way,” I replied. My excitement to work on a new project was growing.
One thing led to another & somewhere in the middle we mutually decided that this would be the next project. The plumbing was shot & needed to be completely redone anyway, so we just went for it. Gavin first gently removed the cabinetry that my grandpa had built. We found his writing on the back of the medicine cabinet with his name & the year he built it, 1977. We stacked all of the wood & cabinet doors to be reused in another project in the future.
From there, it was all sledgehammer & crowbar. And we ended up finding some amazing things. For example, when we began to rip down the ceiling, we realized that the original one goes up nearly 5 feet higher! “It’s like a whole other room up there!” Gavin said, as he shined his light through the hole. We also found old wallpaper, names written in the cement and a brick that slides out (no treasure behind it unfortunately). It was so neat to envision this space as the main entryway to the home. After more uncovering, we realized the opening that has the glass block is much bigger than we had thought too. It must have been double doors that were once there. I love to imagine it back when it was built. There’s so much history to uncover.
Stay tuned for the next venture of the bathroom remodeling project.

Hi! I work with Gavin. You can tell him Arlene sent me to your site. Can I just say the bedroom post looks beautiful? You and your mom did a wonderful job. I would have posted there but comments were off.
