Journal Entry 6/14/20

Writing in the library, drinking chamomile tea. This time is a blessing. I never would have thought it to be so valuable as I do now. It feels rewarding to sit in a finished room, finally being able to enjoy it. This desk completes the space. I found it about seven years ago at a thrift store. It’s the first piece of furniture I ever refurbished. Here’s what it looked like in my art room at my old house along with one of my very first design ventures, the chalkboard paint accent wall!

It has moved with me and has sat in the garage until last weekend when it found its final resting place here in the library.

This morning I helped Gavin fish wire for a light that’ll be mounted going up to the third floor. A frustrating, time-consuming & dirty job, I might add, as I crouched & he lied across the floor joists in the crawl space. Cobwebs, old insulation, dust, walnut shells and stuffy, hot air. His friends Mike and Adam helped him with this yesterday while my mom & I started working on Uncle Fritz’s old room then made a visit to Umbrella Alley. It was a good day with beautiful weather.

After setting up Gavin’s inventive ladder stair stand, with the 10 foot metal ladder balancing on top, it was time to drill into the board where the fixture would be. I prayed every time he climbed up that ladder as I held the side and stared at the rubber stopper of the leg hanging halfway off the stand.

Back & forth, up and down. In the crawl space, squeeze out. Eventually we successfully got the wire through to the other side. A victory!

Decided to take a break & go to the store to look for lighting. Didn’t find anything we really liked. Came home and rested. We both fell asleep finishing the second half of the Garth Brooks documentary. I just woke up a bit ago and pulled myself out of bed to water the plants on the back patio. Ready to call it a night and snuggle back in bed again.
